Are you considering using a Tria Beauty hair removal laser but would like to understand more about the technology and process involved, as well as the results of the treatment? Here, we address ten of the most common questions:
1. What is laser hair removal?
Put simply, laser hair removal is the process of removing unwanted hair by exposing the hair follicle to pulses of laser light to destroy it and prevent regrowth.
2. What technology does it use?
Tria Beauty’s hair removal devices use diode laser technology; a single spectrum of intensely concentrated pure light which targets the dark pigment in the hair follicle to disable its ability to regrow hair, resulting in permanent hair removal.
This differs to Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology, which produces a range of different wave lengths and colours that are dispersed at various levels of depths. This means only a small percentage of the IPL energy is effectively absorbed by the hair follicle to reduce and slow down hair regrowth, but not permanently stop it from growing.
3. What skin and hair colours can it treat?
The Tria Beauty hair removal lasers are effective on white, ivory, beige and light brown skin tones – but unsafe to use on medium brown, dark brown or black skin. Unfortunately, people with darker skin tones have a higher risk of skin injury with the lasers because of higher levels of melanin in the skin. The lasers only treat natural light brown to black hair, too – not lighter hair colours, such as blonde, white, red or grey.
4. What areas of the body does it treat?
The Tria Beauty hair removal lasers can be used to treat an array of areas, including the upper-lip, chin, tummy, bikini line, under-arms, legs and toes. However, do not use the lasers on the ears, nipples, genitals or anus. Men can use the lasers too, but not on the face, jaw or neck because the hair there is too dense.
5. What does treatment involve?
Tria Beauty hair removal laser treatment is every two weeks and we recommend using the laser for a minimum of three months or until you see the desired results. Here are simplified step-by-step treatment instructions for the Hair Removal Laser 4X:
1) Charge the laser for at least two hours before using it or anytime the battery icon is empty
2) Prepare the skin: Cleanse, shave and towel-dry.
3) Press the power button on the laser and hold the base of the device to the body area you wish to treat. If the device is safe for your skin tone, the device will unlock.
4) Select one of five treatment levels, customising to your comfort. Start on a low setting and work your way up.
5) Choose an area and begin: After each pulse, lift and place the tip in an overlapping pattern.
6. Can I wax, pluck or shave before or between treatments?
Six weeks before your first treatment and during treatments, do not wax or pluck hair, but you can continue to shave hair.
You will actually need to shave away any hair before treatments, as that retains the hair follicle but removes the surface hair, to improve comfort and allow the light to better reach the follicle. If you’re treating the face and don’t want to shave that area, we recommend using a good quality facial hair removal cream and cleaning the surface of the skin well prior to treatment.
7. Is it safe?
Yes! The Tria Beauty hair removal lasers are the first and only clinically-proven cordless lasers available for home use. You’ll find the same core technology in the majority of professional skin clinics because of its ability to permanently remove hair.
8. Does it hurt?
It varies per users. You can control the intensity of Tria Beauty hair removal lasers and on the higher settings, some users might feel the sensation of a rubber band snapping against the skin or a warm pricking feeling, while others report no discomfort.
To minimise any discomfort, we recommend applying Tria Beauty Smoothstart Calming Gel before hair removal laser treatment as it helps to cool and soothe laser-treated skin, as well as absorb some of the sensation during treatment.
9. How long until I see results?
The lasers are proven to clear up to 70% of unwanted hair after only two treatments and, by three months, hair follicles will have been deactivated. It’s important to note that results can vary depending on the density of the hair and the area being treated. We recommend users are consistent with their treatment and treat for at least three months to see optimum results.
10. What are the differences between Tria Beauty’s Hair Removal Laser 4X and Hair Removal Laser Precision?
The Hair Removal Laser 4X is intended for use on larger areas, such as the legs, and can be used on smaller, sensitive areas such as the bikini line, too. The Precision is a reduced price and intended for smaller, sensitive areas only.
